7 luxury advent calendars to help you countdown to Christmas

Advent calendars are one of the traditions of the festive season. Opening a door each day from 1 December reminds you that Christmas is getting inexorably closer.

You’ll usually find a different nativity picture behind each window, although many calendars now offer a different mini chocolate or sweet instead.

While most are targeted at children, some manufacturers take the opportunity to produce a range of high-end advent calendars aimed at adults.

So, on that theme, here are seven luxury advent calendars for you to read about.

Because we’re a little late to this, we’ve also mixed in some luxury calendars that can easily be reused year after year, rather than disposed of when you take the decorations down.

1. Fortnum & Mason’s advent Christmas tree

Few do high-end luxury products better than Fortnum & Mason, so it makes sense that their luxury advent calendar really is something to savour and cherish.

Designed in the classic Christmas tree shape, the design of this wooden advent calendar features all the images you associate with the West End store, including the famous F&M Hamper and the familiar Piccadilly façade.

All the doors open to reveal space for small gifts you can personalise yourself, depending on who will be opening them each morning.

Because it’s so easily reusable, it’s deliberately designed to become a treasured family heirloom.

2. Wine advent calendar

There’s a clear link between celebrating Christmas and enjoying a festive drink, and this wine advent calendar manages to combine both.

Behind each of the 24 doors lies a miniature bottle of white, red, or rosé wine to enjoy. With delicate flavours from a variety of wines from around the world, there is something new to try every day.

It comes with detailed tasting notes for each of the wines, and is a perfect way to countdown to Christmas.

One idea we had was to save up a series of bottles and then conduct an impromptu wine-tasting session, with suitable food accompaniment, on one of the chilly December evenings during the month.

3. Luxury cotton advent calendar

This is the second of our recommendations for you that is deliberately designed to be reusable.

A luxury king-size, fabric advent calendar is the perfect way to count down the days to Christmas.

Each of the pockets is embroidered with the relevant date and is the perfect place to pop personalised messages or gifts.

Each calendar can have a name embroidered into it, which means it can be used year after year and become one of your family Christmas traditions.

It also comes with a drawstring bag to store it in for the rest of the year.

As a suggestion, you might want to think about putting a note on your 2024 calendar for mid-November to remind yourself of where you’ve stored it!

4. Prosecco advent calendar

Here’s another alcohol-themed calendar that you can enjoy.

Christmas is about celebration, and no drink better epitomises celebrating than sparkling wine. Even just the sound of a cork popping can raise a smile!

This calendar takes you on a 24-day celebratory journey, fuelled by a dozen different Proseccos. There are two 20cl bottles of each – enough for two glasses – from luscious rosés to extra-dry sparkling whites.

You’ll find many familiar names on the bottles, including:

  • Bottega Prosecco Gold
  • Freixenet Italian Sparkling Rose
  • Mionetto Prosecco DOC Prestige Black.

The tree comes in two boxes and can take time to put together, but you’ll surely find the effort worthwhile.

5. Fortnum & Mason’s filled wooden house

You can make every day in December a joy-filled occasion with this gorgeously designed wooden house advent calendar.

It’s the second Fortnum & Mason item on our list, and the design reflects their commitment to quality and luxury goods.

Behind each of the doors you’ll find an own-brand Fortnum & Mason Christmas-themed treat, including milk chocolate coins, chocolate Santas, and natural fruit pectin jellies.

Although it’s not specifically designed to be reused, with a little imagination and maybe a Fortnum’s online order, you’ll be able refill it for next year!

6. A personalised jewellery advent calendar

Why not treat someone special and add some sparkling luxury to their Christmas anticipation?

Not only is this advent calendar filled with 24 jewel gifts, but each is personalised for your intended recipient.

It’s full of luxury bespoke jewellery including birthstone and initialled pieces, and each item is of high quality, so it won’t tarnish or fade.

You won’t be surprised to learn that this is the most expensive advent calendar on your list, but if you’re looking to provide a memorable item for someone really special, then this is a perfect gift.

7. An advent calendar for your pet

Christmas is all about spending time together as a family. Given that pet owners see their cat or dog as part of their family, why shouldn’t they get an advent calendar for themselves?

You have a choice of either a cat or dog calendar, with a tasty treat behind each door.  This means that your favourite companion can join in the Christmas excitement with the rest of you!
